Jigme Rinpoche was born in 1949 in Derge, East Tibet. When he was six years old he came to Tsurphu, the main seat of the Karmapas in Tibet. Together with the 16^th Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpey Dorje, he left Tibet because of the Chinese invasion in 1959. Afterwards he lived in Rumtek, Sikkim and received his education under the guidance of the 16^th Gyalwa Karmapa.

Since 1974 he lives in France and is the representative of the Gyalwa Karmapa in Europe. Since then he supervises the centers and teaches wherever possible.
