Portraits of Gendun
Rinpoche
Gendün Rinpoche
was a senior master of the Kagyü lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. In the seventies,
the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa asked him to
teach in Europe. Since that time Gendün Rinpoche has been living in France where
he contributed to establishing several Buddhist centers. In the last few years
he focused his activity on caring for a retreat center in France where more than
100 Europeans have had the possibility to intensify their meditation practice in
solitude. Gendün Rinpoche passed away on Oct. 31st, 1997 in France.
In 1994 we had
the opportunity to pose questions to Gendün Rinpoche and to make a video about
this. We asked him to tell us about his life in Tibet, his escape to India, his
meetings with the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, the tasks which the Karmapa entrusted him
with and about some of the Karmapa's prophecies.
