H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa in Uttar Pradesh, India

 

In July 2005, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Samaj Sudhar Samiti issued an invitation to His Holiness, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje to install and bless Buddha statues at five Buddha Viharas in Uttar Pradesh. Following the invitation, His Holiness visited Agra as well as the Etah and Kannauj Districts of Uttar Pradesh from November 24 to 27, 2005.

His Holiness expressed happiness at all the Viharas and thanked the organizers for facilitating the meeting of the followers and devotees of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

His Holiness advised that the Buddha Dharma's message of compassion and equality could overcome suffering and ensure peace for all living beings.

 

November 24, 2005: Inauguration of a Buddha Vihara in Agra:

His Holiness was received at Sikandra at around 11 a.m. by the organizers and taken to Agra in a procession of around 20 motor cycle riders carrying dharma flags which were followed by motorcade. As he alighted from the car and proceeded to the Vihara, people in the adjoining houses showered him with flower petals which they threw from their roofs. His Holiness was welcomed by Shri Anil Soni, General Secretary, Zila Panchayat, Smt. Sonu Devi, Councilor City Corporation, area MLA/MLC, Sarpanch, a group of Bhikshus and a large number of devotees.

In the afternoon His Holiness was taken around the World Heritage Taj Mahal by Shri Tiwari of the Archaeological Survey of India.

November 25, 2005: Inauguration of a Buddha Vihara in Narow Jelisar, Etah District:

The Chief Organizer of the Ambedker Samita accompanied His Holiness at the Vihara which was named "Karmapa Buddha Vihara". His Holiness was welcomed in a great reception ceremony. Among those present were the District President BSP and General Secretary of the Samiti.

November 25, 2005: Inauguration of a Buddha Vihara in Niddrauh Kalin, Etah District:

H.H. reached the next Vihara at Niddrauh Kalin in the same District, where he was also welcomed by a group of Bhikshus led by Ven Dhammaraj, prominent village functionaries and a sizeable number of devotees.

November 26, 2005: Inauguration of a Buddha Vihara in Sardi Meeva, Kannauj District:

Next on the itinerary was a Vihara in Sardi Meeva village which is 62 km from Etah in the Kannauj District. His Holiness arrived there in the afternoon and was received by Shri Khushi Ram, Chairman and other members of the organizing committee, Shri TM Kumar and Shri Pooram Mal of the Smiti Headquarters from New Delhi. There was also a group of Bhikshus and a large number of devotees, including individuals from other religions.

November 26, 2005: Inauguration of a Buddha Vihara in Kewal Ka Nagla, Etah District:

The last Vihara to be inaugurated was at the village Kewal Ka Nagla, close to the district headquarters of Etah. More than 5000 devotees were present to welcome His Holiness. Prominent among the organizers were Smt. Mithilesh Kumar, Panchayat President, General Secretary Talra Ahmed, Dr. Mahinder Singh, Shri Om Prakesh Dalit, District President, BSP Shri S.R. Pushkar of the Buddhist Society of lndia and Municipal Chairman Girish Chandra Mishra.
